Rattay is an insurance policy in case Simms falls on his face. But the Bucs have the week off so it will be interesting to see what happens after the bye week.

Meanwhile, the Rams have Jamie Martin to fill in for Bulger.

I can't believe the Niners did this. Now if they need to sit Smith down for a while to prevent him from getting killed, they have to go with Ken Dorsey or Cody Pickett. Yikes.

On the bright side, this makes the path to the No. 1 overall pick and the accompanying bounty in their trade of it much more of a possibility.

You're joking, right? Simms doesn't have a chance to start once Rattay learns the playbook.

You may end up missing Griese in a month or two.

I liked Rattay, but I don't think the guy is worth a damn bit more than a 2d stringer @ best...

Rattay is worth a few decent starts, but he usually drops off pretty quickly.
