  • A Miracle, A Surprise, A Failure, A Constant

Often a successful or even a unsuccessful season will have these elements

The Miracle is someone who comes out of nowhere to make a contribution that is all-star calibre.

The Surprise is someone who is an average starter but will play at an All Star level.

The Failure is an above average to great player who will greatly dissappoint.

The Constant will be a player who day in day out perfoms at the same high level.

    My votes

The Miracle - Rick Ankiel or Alan Benes

    The Surprise - Marlon Anderson

The Failure - Matt Morris or Woody Williams both prone to injury.

The Constant - Albert Pujols and Edgar Renteria

If Carpenter is throwing is well as they claim he might be your miracle

Anderson had decent numbers last year and even better on grass...I won't be all that surprised if he does fairly decent with the stick but its his D that concerns me

I hope we don't see Ankiel at all this year on the big team. I don't want to see him til 2005.

How long does it take to heal from TJ? Wasn't it a year for Mo and then he did relief work the following year? Or did he do that relief work the immediate following year?

If there's going to be a miracle, I prefer Alan be it rather than Rick.

The Failure...I expect Williams to be that. Towards the end of last season, I decided that he would probably be injured more this year. I think Matt will do fine.

Marlon Anderson would be a nice surprise. So would Carpenter (he's cute, I think). And so would Suppan.

Another nice surprise might be if our bench is better than I think it will be. I mean, come on, if Mabry succeeds at stuff, I would love it. I liked that guy way back whenever that was that he was here. He's quiet.

Miracle-Rick Ankiel pitching in middle relief after the all star break, and making one or two starts once we've either clinched a playoff spot or been eliminated

Surprise-As an everday lead off hitter Kerry Robinson works the count and takes a lot of pitches, gets on and steals bases all year. AP's RBI count thanks him. Bo Hart will also show that you can will yourself to be a major leaguer.

Failure-Woody Williams age and occasional injuries catch up to him.

Constant-Chris Carpenter gives Cardinal nation a sigh of relief when he grinds out solid performance after solid performance.
        Are you on the list?

They originally projected Ankiel to be back next year. Then moved it up to August - now I think it is right after the all star break.

The last time Mabry was here we was the young and cute type CG - so maybe that's why you like him. He also could play a little

I would prefer they don't bother with bringing him up this year.

As far as Mabry, uh, yep, guilty of thinkin he wasn't bad lookin back then. Haven't seen him lately.

I think they have to, he's out of options.....so he's either got to be on the dl or the roster.....

I would love to let him come back and pitch a game that counts, but doesn't....let him play in a big league game

why can't they keep him on the DL the whole year?

I know he's out of options.

I dunno. Tricky situation, isn't it?

Can Marlon Anderson really be our 2nd baseman and leadoff hitter?

                  I just can't picture it.

He wasn't too bad with the Phillies and I remember Arizona having a 2nd Baseman that kind of came out of nowhere when they won it all. I am just hoping -

                      I don't think he'll be either.

The miracle is going to be Carpenter

The surprise is gonna be Jeff Suppan

The constant will be Rolen and Pujols having their usual years

The failure will be either Renteria (He didn't play as well the year he was mentioned in trade rumors, how's he gonna handle his walk year?), or it could be Edmonds with another injury plagued year. He's awesome if he can stay healthy. That's a big if.

Through it all the Cards win over 90 games and the division to shock all of the naysayers and bandwagon jumping cub and stro supporters.

I said over 90. Something a lot of you forget is the Astros and the Cubs have to face eachother as well. I don't think any of the top 3 are going to dominate eachother. Beating up on the Pirates, Reds and Brewers is whats going to win this division.
