  • Would you rather pay higher gas taxes

Providing we can get rid of the gas tax, completely, I'd much rather pay tolls on my local highways, than to pay taxes that may never get spent on my area roads.

Agree. But I'm sure there are a lot of people that get their hands on that gas tax money that wouldn't allow that to happen.
Asked what he would do differently in Iraq, Kerry said, "Right now, what I would do differently is, I mean, look, I'm not the president, and I didn't create this mess so I don't want to acknowledge a mistake that I haven't made."

I heard on KMOX on this morning's commute, that a survey of AAA members stated that the vast majority would rather pay higher taxes.

I'd like to put in a plan that would keep the tolls collected on a certain road, earmarked just for that road. For example, if I270 were to become a toll road, all the funds collected go solely to it's repair and upkeep.

Show me the gas tax repeal and we'll talk.
And, frankly, it has never occured to me that "winning" a debate is important, or that I should be hurt when someone like Airshark or kah, among others (for whom winning a pseudo debate or declaring intellectual superiority over invisible others is obviously very important) ridicule me.

          Toll roads are the future.

It must be that way. IMO

I think they should be able to use them, they should just have to pay more.

                Folks,

I'm talking about the economics of our roads and taxes. I couldn't care less about fruitcakes.

I like the idea, but I don't see how it would work. How can you collect tolls on 270 when there is an exit every mile? I can see how you'd pay for a bridge that way. Would the tolls on the major roads be enough to keep up the lesser roads?

You've got an excellent point. They would have to drastically redo the exit/entrance ramp system.

Toll roads would just slow me down.

                        Fuck that.

                        I'll pay at the pump.

I'd prefer to pay at the pump, with the proceeds going to the states. I'm sure it can be done more effeciently than it is currently.
