  • Christopher John Carpenter

    Age: 28
    Height: 6-6
    Weight: 230 lbs.
    Bats: Right
    Throws: Right
    Pos: SP

Born: April 27, 1975, Exeter, NH, United States
    Full Name: Christopher John Carpenter
    College: None
    Experience: 6 years
    2003 Salary: $300,000

He will make the Cardinal team player calendar better because of his face. I hope he has a nice ass too.

It would be cool if his pitching all works out well and he's a pleasant surprise this year. I was willing to buy into some of the hype surrounding him lately, until I saw TLR say that Alan Benes has the best stuff or something this camp so far. Ah, heck, I will remain optimistic about him.

Today is Chris Carpenter Day. Let's be happy and hopeful, shall we?

didn't they used to have another Chris Carpenter in the early 90's or something?

Carpenter is at that perfect age -- he is seasoned and mature. He should be ripe for a come back. The problem as we all know is that he injured his shoulder and not his elbow. Much harder to come back from -- as evidenced by Alan Benes.

I'm really rooting for this guy. I think he is the key to the season. If he is as good as we hope, then the Cards will be able to compete with Houston and the Cubbies.

      Thanks

I agree with Far--Carpenter is THE key to the season. Not to get ahead of myself, but he's key to next season too, given Morris' contract situation.

Read a lot about this guy, but never saw him pitch. Saw some stats that with the Blue Jays, he had 12 complete games, and 5 shutouts over this career. Compare that with Mr. Tomko, another guy with "great stuff" (or so we heard)--no complete games in his entire career. So he's definitely shown more than a little potential in the bigs.

I can see the reason for optimism with this guy.
          I'm always right.

              Kaiser:

he's also a ground ball pitcher. That hurt him in Toronto with the concrete surface they play on. It should play to his strength with our infield.

Okay, cool. I did not know that about Carpenter and it makes me happy to have someone tell me stuff I didn't know in the Player Celebration threads.

                Thanks, Far.

                    CG:

It's been really tough to start a sports thread these days. I guess there is still not much to talk about yet.

                      Yes, Far.

It's okay. Debating and stuff is important to people and the player celebration stuff is a little rah rah for that sort of thing.

I think his shoulder will be fine. I just thank goodness that he has no achilles tendon problems. He says he feels good and I believe him.

I think the player celebrations are great. I love reading your sunny views.

                        How is his ass?

                          Thanks, Moe.

I haven't seen it yet, but I will take a gander when I'm in Jupiter...

Actually, you know what? I might have gotten his autograph last year as well as a really good pic of him (face though). I didn't recognize him, but always meant to find out when I got back last year. I forgot to do it.
