It's nuts, man.
All those folks who are excited about signing Pujols better like the fact he's the only excitement coming up. We're not going to win as many games as those guys. Our pitching sucks.

No. Pujols is not washed up or a project.

we still have a good lineup, and i like our bullpen. starting pitching is the big ?, but we'll see. who knows, maybe one of our dead arms will be one of those great comeback stories
as for maddux, i don't think he's gonna be as great as everyone thinks. we'll kill him. so will the stros. i didn't want the cards to sign him. he'd be the Tino of the mound. watch. he'll suck this year.Official 2009 Sponsor of nobody

My opinion on the Maddux signing is that if he meets the clauses that pick up the option, the Cubs are going to regret the contract in 2006. $9 million for a 41-year-old pitcher? Way too much.
That's why the Cubs better win the pennant in the next two years. If Maddux plays a big role in that happening, then you bite the bullet on a potentially bad year with a bloated salary because the guy helped you win a pennant. Otherwise this contract was a waste of money because Maddux was never more than an expensive luxury for the Cubs.

I couldn't agree more. I was having a lot of trouble understanding why many Cards fans were so excited about bringing him in. The Cubs overpaid for him both in terms of $$ and years.
Ok.
Williams? We should start a countdown to when he will go on the DL.
