  • Thoughts & Prayers Requested…

My nephew DJ leaves tomorrow for Army Boot Camp. He has 6 weeks of basic training followed by 6 weeks of combat training and then he will be headed off to Iraq – 1st Infantry.

We are proud of him, and glad he is going to serve his country, however we are obviously concerned for his safety. He’s a great kid and we will worry about him of course. He signed up to “see the world” and of course the Infantry group pays more/month…so he was greedy and went with that. He will be able to spend Christmas w/us before he heads off to Iraq, then who knows where the world will take him.

    Thanks in advance!

    Mucho prayers and thoughts.

I have a young cousin who's headed to Fort Leonard Wood on Sept 15th. He already knows that he'll be going to Iraq in a few months, once he finishes BT and MP school.

That is exactly what DJ wants to get too. I don't know the exact details, but from what I understand, he can't go to MP school until after he finishes his first tour.

I was told two things before I went to boot camp that I think can hold true for any branch

                1. Don't take anything personally that the Drill Instructors/Sgt's call you.
                2. Take it one day at a time. At first it might be hard to do that so take meal to meal at a time.

                Good luck to him.

Tell DJ never volunteer for anything and keep his mouth shut unless to say Yes Sir.

                      Good luck.

OK somebody got some wrong info, thought you might want to know. BCT is 9-10 weeks (its moving to 10 weeks so some units are still doing 9 weeks), if hes infantry he'll be down in Fort Benning (where I went) for 13 weeks of BCT and I forgot how long their AIT is. I think the "Chair Force" is 6-7 weeks of BCT... Anyway congrats to him for joining the U.S. Army!
