I thought it was a Trans Am -- but I could be wrong.

Trans-Am is a package for the Pontiac Firebird, usually including the most powerful (or one of the most powerful) engines available on the Firebird line. Exceptions to this are the old HD/SD Firebirds of the 70's, and the GTA's of the 80's.

But yes, you are correct, the car Burt Reynolds drove was a 6.6 litre T/A.

As a 5th-grader who was infatuated with cars and this movie in particular, I can absolutely assure you that the Banditmobile was indeed a black Trans Am.

Jackie Gleason was so damn funny in that movie, too. "When I get home, I'm gonna punch your momma right in the mouth!"

And I must agree, despite how very redneck that vehicle (and the movie natch) was I have a special place in my heart for it as well. I have been considering one of these for my next project car, done up as Year-One does (Except it would be more as I would like it and cost me far less money).

                            RIP Jerry.

Of course, I'm going to have that song stuck in my head for the rest of the day.
