  • Iraq signs oil deal.

This is certainly a kick in the head. We invest blood and wealth in Iraq and the Chinese get the oil deal.

I miss he that cannot be named being here to remind us again about all that cheap Iraqi oil we would be seeing after we sent in the troops.

BAGHDAD, Iraq (CNN) -- Iraq has signed its first major oil deal with a foreign company since the fall of Saddam Hussein's regime, a spokesman for the Iraqi Oil Ministry said Saturday.
Iraq's oil fields currently produce around 2.5 million barrels a day.

It was the first time in more than 35 years that Iraq has allowed foreign oil companies to do business inside its borders.
The contract with the China National Petroleum Corporation could be worth up to $3 billion. It would allow the CNPC to develop an oil field in southern Iraq's Wasit province for about 20 years, said Oil Ministry spokesman Assim Jihad.

              There are some things converging.

The 79 billion dollar budget surplus in Iraq as we spend billions each month adding to our deficit.

The behavior of the shiites after

              MANDATE OF MULTINATIONAL FORCE

Recognizing the request from Iraq, the Security Council today(December of 2007) decided to extend the mandate of the multinational force in that country -- “for the last time”, according to its Permanent Representative -- until 31 December 2008.

Acting under Chapter VII of the United Nations Charter, the Council unanimously adopted resolution 1790 (2007), deciding further that the mandate would be reviewed at the request of the Government of Iraq or no later than 15 June 2008. The mandate would be terminated earlier if the Iraqi Government requested the Council to do so.

The Council also extended until 31 December 2008 the arrangements for the depositing into the Development Fund for Iraq of proceeds from export sales of petroleum, petroleum products and natural gas, as well as the arrangements for the monitoring of the Fund by the International Advisory and Monitoring Board (IAMB), deciding also that the arrangements would be reviewed at the request of the Iraqi Government or no later than 15 June 2008.

This is a serious matter, which Obama and Biden will be talking about with each other, and to the nation.

McCain will keep bragging about how well the surge has worked. Palin will add her expertise in support of him.

Because I'm sure the left wouldn't be increasing their "War for Oil!" chants if the U.S. got a contract with Iraq...

Goddamn right! This is capitalism in action, here. The whining would have been incessant had this contract gone to a US company.

OK, so we "liberate" a country to make a deal with the nation that wants to bury us economically. That sounds about right to me.

Gee, do ya think they might sign more than one oil deal?

I do not quarrel with that. And I respect your ability to spot things I miss--so I want you to tell me if you think there is anything significant about what will hapeen on 12-31 when the arrangement between the u.s. and Iraq runs out.

I get the feeling that if McCain wins, then Bush will press to not let 12-31's arrangement be cancelled---If Obama wins---fuck it---let them do whatever they want.
