  • Metallica--Death Magnetic...

The Day That Never Comes is the 1st release of the long awaited album with new producer Rick Rubin, who should've replaced Bob Rock in the producer's chair after the Some Kind Of Monster expose.

Nice melodic structure with a killer guitar solo...Over 7 min. long

Another song from Death Magnetic, Cyanide, can be found on their myspace page.

    opinion from L.A. Times

That side trip into sensitivity long over, Metallica reasserts its 21st century relevance by returning to the dangerous edge of its '80s dominance.

Like Rocky V, and Rambo III, that should'nt have seen the light of day in favor of "Rocky Balboa & "John Rambo", respectively, this is the Metallica album that should've superceded St. Anger.

I personally think St. Anger could sound great with a remix, but I think I made that point in another thread.

I like this one & will buy it.

    Thoughts?

Well, it's mixed better than St. Anger. Are they trying to get back to their roots? If so, they failed. They should have stopped after ...And Justice For All. People who loved "Fuel" might like this.

I didn't even know there were on tour. They'll be at the Sprint Center on October 25. I won't go.

Scottrade Center on Monday, Nov. 17th.

From looking at their set lists, they are playing mostly the old, good stuff, which is the only way I would consider seeing them.

Anyone found any info on when tickets go on sale or what kind of prices we are looking at?

It sounds like a re-worked Fade to Black with weak vocals. I don't know why Hetfield thinks he's a crooner.

I doubt I'll get excited about this, not after that last steaming pile of vomit they put in my ears.

++ A remix and dumping that out-of-tune clang of a snare from Lars. If there was ever a sign that everyone involved had lost their ears, that was it.

I was (and frankly still am) too much of a fan not to get the album. With Rick Rubin at the helm, it can't help but sound good. I don't expect Master of Puppets from them. I'll give solid hard rock a listen.

I think their concerts are essentially nothing but Black album and back now (with a couple of new ones to sell it).

I used to be so pumped when a new Metallica album came out. That pretty much stopped after the Black album although I like S&M and the 2-disc b-sides/covers deal they put out a few years ago.

I guess with age, my passion for music has waned.

No, just that with age, Metallica has gotten shitty with their new music.

The new stuff on this album sounds better than the previous couple, but it still doesn't touch their old stuff.

And I did some more digging on their recent set lists. About 75% of the songs they are playing in concert are from the Black Album or earlier. Currently only playing the 2 songs listed in the initial post from the new album and are playing some Garage Inc. covers and a song or two off Load/Reload. I can live with that.

Just wish they'd announce how much tickets are and when they go on sale.

                    My Apocalypse

                    Officially a song I dislike.

I keep Waiting for Rick Rubin with the gong!

hmmm....Metallica doing a Slayer 'cover'?...how times have changed...

I actually like it alright (for one listen) and more than the Day that Never comes one above.

Rubin seems to have got them sound/write like Metallica (that god), but creating, for loss of a better word, tunefull riffs/parts that mesh into a greater whole may be a talent lost with age.

I generally don't give much thought to lyrics (and certainly not metal lyrics), but James needs to get off this self analysis crap.

Metallica is at their best when Jaymz is singing about war, fire, death, the apocalypse and general destruction.

Well inspired by is different than explicit "me, me, me" self absorbed/attention whore lyrics.

And Rock n' Roll Rule 1.b states that once an artist completes rehab, his best work is behind him.

But really, I'm not listening to Metallica for lyrics so meh..
