  • CSD's 50 Questions for the upcoming NFL season

I'll post 5 questions at a time for discussion purposes.

    1. With the changes made on the defensive side of the ball and with the return of Duece and the addition of Shockey, will the Saints return to being the emerging powerhouse they were two seasons ago?

    2. Is it me or is Lovie Smith completely incompetent in building and running an NFL offense?

    3. With Mike Nolan on the hot seat in San Francisco, will he be desperate enough to let Mad Mike Martz run the offense they way he wants to or will he set some guidelines and or limits?

    4. Will San Diego finally fulfill their potential of being the team with the most talented roster in the NFL by winning the Super Bowl or even reaching it?

    5. I think it's obvious that Brett Favre will make the Jets a better team but will he make them a playoff team?

      Football IS life.

I'm actually watching Denver destroy Dallas in a preseason game right now and loving it like it was a regular season game.

        And for discussion purposes:

        1. Although the NFC may be slightly better than it was last year, I expect the Saints to romp. They should be a playoff lock, and I can see them winning the conference. And they have a lot of redemption on their plate if they want to make up for crapping the bed against the Rams last year and costing me my suicide pool.

        2. Poor drafting and free agent signings haven't helped, but it certainly seems that way.

        3. Martz will be prominently involved. Couldn't hurt.

        4. No. A combination of Philip Rivers and a talented conference stacks the odds against them.

        5. I was initially inclined to say no, but take a look at the NYJ schedule. It has to be one of the easiest in the league.

If I'm not doing anything I will. I don't have a team myself this year so I'll help if you want.

I think they'll make the playoffs.

              2. Is it me or is Lovie Smith completely incompetent in building and running an NFL offense?

Is it he or someone in upper management who seem incapable of getting a quality NFL QB?

              3. With Mike Nolan on the hot seat in San Francisco, will he be desperate enough to let Mad Mike Martz run the offense they way he wants to or will he set some guidelines and or limits?

If Nolan were smart, he'd let Mad Mike take full reigns of the offense.

              4. Will San Diego finally fulfill their potential of being the team with the most talented roster in the NFL by winning the Super Bowl or even reaching it?

If they don't make the Super Bowl this season, IMO it will vendicate Marty Schottenheimer. Marty couldn't help that a couple of his guys decided to play with their heads up their asses against the Pats a couple years ago.

              5. I think it's obvious that Brett Favre will make the Jets a better team but will he make them a playoff team?

              No.

Yes they should improve especially now that Colston is in his 3rd year. WRs tend to really take off in their 3rd year and beyond and this with Colston playing well in his first two years.

                2. Is it me or is Lovie Smith completely incompetent in building and running an NFL offense?

No it's not you. He seem to be incapable of actually getting a QB. Grossman or Orton? Oy.

                3. With Mike Nolan on the hot seat in San Francisco, will he be desperate enough to let Mad Mike Martz run the offense they way he wants to or will he set some guidelines and or limits?

I think Nolan will temper Martz more than any coach in the past since Vermeil. Martz will actually coach from the coaches box for the first time since 1999. That would allow Nolan more control in terms of overriding Martz' calls.

                4. Will San Diego finally fulfill their potential of being the team with the most talented roster in the NFL by winning the Super Bowl or even reaching it?

Well Norv is still the coach. I'm not completely sold on him. But the team has enough talent to overcome him and do great things. Until they meet the fucking Pats.

                5. I think it's obvious that Brett Favre will make the Jets a better team but will he make them a playoff team?

Yeah I think so. The Jets are a good young team on the D side and to have a savvy QB like Favre is a big bonus for them.

Wr Robert Meachem has also looked very impressive early on for the Saints. Brees looks like he has a lot of weapons this year.

It's not just the QB's there, it's the RBs and WR's as well. What a mess!

Right I forgot about him briefly.

That team is definitely loaded. Payton has no excuses this year.

                        Eagles play them?

Too bad the Rams don't. I loved our rivalry when we both were playing well.

Very good point. I forgot all about that.

They aren't on the schedule but I'd love to face them in the playoffs.
