  • So here I am with my new MacBook Pro...

And I must say, there are a few problems, but in general it's pretty good. I've got it hooked to the Cinema Display, and I bought an external keyboard and a Logitech 2-button mouse. I was impressed by how easily it all just worked, particularly how easy it was to get into my WPA2 network.

The downsides so far: this Apple keyboard sucks. I'm going to see if I can get my Unicomp working with it. Also, Safari blows. I'm going to download Firefox. The freakin' Home/End keys don't work in Mac apps. And I am going to install VMWare Fusion tomorrow.

So, what stuff do I need for my new machine, Macolytes? What good software is a must-have?

This is never going to be my favorite machine. But it does at least boot a lot quicker than my Vista or XP boxes.

No one uses Safari. Mail is also shitty, at least in the junk mail filter.

I have VMWare Fusion on my iMac for Quicken and a few other things, and I'm happy with it.

Honestly, I don't use any software other than the pre-loaded stuff. The iLife suite is enough to keep me happy.

                  I'm not familiar with Zimbra...

Admittedly, I gave up on Apple-based mail clients a long time ago...

                    Here's a review : http://www.techcrunch.com/2008/07/23...source-client/

take it for what its worth.

Thunderbird can be another option. Not a bad email client.
