  • Its Time To Go Back to Izzy; UPDATED: He's the closer!

I think this deserves its own discussion thread, rather than muddle it up in the GDT.

I think its time to go back to Izzy as the closer. Yes, he sucks, etc. We all know that.

However, the dude has done it before, unlike these other clowns, and he's being paid to do it again.

When there are NO good -- make that remotely decent options -- I say you go with someone who at least knows what it takes. Let it ride with Izzy one way or the other. Hell, if we don't figure it out soon, the season is over. I figure Izzy is more likely to "figure it out again" than these are to "figure it out."

Its time to go back to him. Anyone else agree?

        No.

Closer by committee unless we get trade help.

nope........izzy can't hold a lead, either, this year. he pitched fine when we were losing. then as soon as we got the lead, he about coughed it back up tonight.

By committee? The only thing they're closing is games for the other team.

Closer by committee rarely works. Can anyone cite a team that has had much success with it?

Beane and James disciple THEO figured that out in Boston.

Start the bullpen guys for the first two or three innings, then bring in the starters to pitch the final six or seven.

No. We need someone who doesn't suck.

Then you think we need to make a trade, right?

Do you think that's going to happen?

Other than Lohse, none of our starters are capable of going that many innings.

They should be able to go five.

It really doesn't matter anyway. This team has very little chance of playing in the post season with the pitching staff that's in place now.

Haab, I agree, which is another reason why I say we go back to Izzy.
