  • GDT (W): Cards @ Mets 07/26/08 6:10 CDT TV: FSN MW

Saturday, July 26 Shea Stadium | 6:10 PM CT
    Joel Pineiro, RHP (3-4, 4.52)
    Cardinals (57-48)
    @ Brandon Knight, RHP (0-0, -.--)
    Mets (56-47)

    Scouting Report:
Cardinals: Pineiro must figure out how to avoid the big inning. Whether it's because of concentration lapses, mechanical flaws or something else, he's been extremely prone to "crooked numbers" lately. In four of his past five starts, he's had at least one inning in which he allowed at least three runs. The other start in that span? Six and a third shutout. You do the math.

    Mets:
A former pitching prospect in the Yankees system, Knight will make his first Major League start -- and his first big league appearance in six years -- against the Cardinals Saturday. Knight, the reigning Pacific Coast League Pitcher of the Week, was 5-1 with a 1.60 ERA for Triple-A New Orleans. He last pitched Saturday, striking out 12 batters over six scoreless innings to record the win. Knight briefly considered retiring from baseball this offseason before latching on with the Somerset (N.J.) Patriots of the Atlantic League, and, ultimately, with the Mets.

Mick Jagger is in better shape than far too many NBA players. It's up in the air whether the same can be said of Keith Richards.

But he's 32 years old. I think that works against us doesn't it?

Chavez, he of the awesome 2006 NLCS catch, completely loses a fly by Albert to right. Bases loaded, nobody out.

Ankiel raps a single, everyone moves one base, 1-0.

Troy Glaus swings on a 3-0 pitch with the bases loaded. But he walks two pitches later, so it's OK. 2-0.

                      Molina sac fly, 3-0.

Miles punches a single to left, 4-0, still only one out. Yay!

Joel P. botches a bunt. Boo.

Brandon Knight is not good at pitching.

Izturis does what he does best, make an out, and the rally finally ends.

This probably isn't how he envisioned it when he was driving in to the park today.

Let's hope the Cardinals offense isn't limited to the first couple of innings today.
