From this day forward, I no longer shall tinker with the machinery of death.

For more than 20 years I have endeavored-indeed, I have struggled-along with a majority of this Court, to develop procedural & substantive rules that would lend more than the mere appearance of fairness to the death penalty endeavor.

I feel morally and intellectually obligated simply to concede that the death penalty experiment has failed.

The path the Court has chosen lessens us all. I dissent.

Ha! I was going to go with "GFY, Matt Holliday." All about the timing.

All jokes aside, his (Ankiel's) is a story of incredible perseverence and athletic ability. Astounding, really. And I can't say that any of us has been around long enough to see anything quite like it. To go from two completely different disciplines - at this level - and succeed in each is rare. I know a lot was made of the doping scandal last year (not to mention Ankiel's wilting under the hot lights of speculation), but I am somewhat surprised that either BBT or SportsCenter has not taken the opportunity to cover it more than they have in the time since last year's late season story. Simply put, Ankiel is a stud, and I hope to the heavens we're able to somehow retain his services for many years to come. Ankiel is repaying our patience and commitment to him with one wail of a season thus far.

That was a great AB last night. 11 or 12 pitches I think.

The latter. Against a lefty, no less.

And he was 0-2 at one point.

If Ankiel played for Boston or New York, the stories would be frequent and dramatic. Remember how they were there at every turn when he was failing as a pitcher? Funny how the stories don't come nearly as often when he's succeeding.
