  • Lohse says he wants an extension. Do it Mo!

From the P-D article on last night's game:

Lohse is a pending free agent who has voiced a willingness to discuss a contract extension. So far, the club has not reciprocated. However, that could change in coming weeks, according to one source familiar with the situation.

"I'm not putting pressure on anybody. But if something were to get done, it makes sense sooner than later," Lohse said. "If it doesn't, I'm not going to let it be a distraction. I'm going out there trying to win games."
Imagine that maybe Carp gets healthier by next season and can carry a regular turn in the rotation.

    Carp-Wainwright-Lohse?

Oh hell yeah. You can win a lot of games with that starting three, I think.

I didn't think Boras negotiated extensions, but his client wants one. If I'm Mo, I try to get it done and even then start testing the waters about Young Musial....

Three years at ten million per, with a club option for year number four.

I think he may well like the situation he's in here and may settle for a bit less to remain in a better setting. I know that I would.

If I'm a Cardinal signed to a longterm deal and want to see the team I play for prosper--say, if I'm Adam Wainwright--I make two telephone calls.

Call 1 goes to Jeff Weaver, and I ask him to call Kyle Lohse and tell him how things worked out for me when I left Dave Duncan after the 2006 season. I ask him to tell Mr. Lohse what kind of yearly salary he's expecting to pull in 2009, sitting at home and watching his kid brother pitch.

Call 2 goes to Scott Boras. I ask him how many net dollars he's making off Jeff Weaver's contract right now, and wonder what percentage of nothing equals more than zero.

While making that call to Boras, drop in a mention on how much the organization has done for Ankiel...

Perhaps Lohse understands the history of those "retreads" who have success with Duncan and then fail in other places.

This seems like a pretty easy decision for Mo.

Carp, Waino, Lohse, Piniero is a very good start for next year. Now use that cash to get a damn middle infielder.

Boras will almost always push his guys into FA...that said, with Lohse being burned by waiting too long last year, he might have a bigger/more legit gripe to go long-term early than Boras usually deals with.

Still, you have to think that even if Lohse only pitches at an average level from here out, he's going to end up with 16-18 wins and a ~4.00 ERA, which will make him a lot of money on the open market.

                            Maybe he'll have loyalty? hahaha.

I see no reason not to throw some money at him and see what he says.

Rather they spent FA cash next season building a bullpen. Seems pretty clear that Izzy won't be closing games next season in St. Louis.
