Carrie does hold up as one of the best. It certainly grabbed my attention when I was a lad. However for a sudden twist at the end, I can't think of anything better than No Way Out.

Empire had a better ending. I mean...Luke gets his hand cut off, finds out Vader is his father, Han gets frozen and taken away by Boba Fett -- it ends on such a down note. I mean, that's what life is, a series of down endings. All Jedi had was a bunch of Muppets.
