  • Latest windows update...

If you're running Zone Alarm DO NOT download the latest windows update...there is a conflict that will block your internet access.

    The update is KB951748

  • #2
I don't run the zone alarm but that got installed on my latest update and gave me two hours crapola. Just removing it did not help. I had to use a system restore from a few days ago to get back on the internets.

The update is probably related to this "cache poisoning" problem ... prompting "the largest security update in web history".

The Guardian's Bobby Johnson writes that the flaw exploits the Internet's address mechanism, known as the Domain Name System (DNS). This maps the names we associate with Web sites to the true numerical addresses of their Internet servers, in the same way that a mobile phone's address book associates names with telephone numbers. DNS allows people to visit Web sites simply by typing in words -- such as hsdailywire.com or google.com -- rather than entering a string of unmemorable numbers. The glitch allows hackers to inject themselves into the process, intercepting the name entered by the user and mapping it to a different Internet address than the one intended. This would potentially allow criminals to redirect Web users to phishing Web sites even if they had entered the correct address in the first place.

Is this why my internets were all fucked to hell this morning when I woke up?!! I get up, and my 'puter has re-started because XP does that automatic update thing. This morning I get the message that my computer has been automatically updated and restarted for some security thing...All I know is my computer was beyond fucked. I thought I was gonna have to spend my afternoon bitching at charter, but maybe it's Microsoft I should bitch at.
Fortunately for all involved, it appears Somebody somewhere fixed this shit while I was out this morning.

I just bought a Dell with Vista on it. How do I get XP Pro? Can I just install it over Vista or what?
Kinda grabs ya by the boo-boo, don't it?

If you do, it's odds-on that some of your hardware will no longer work. Are you having some specific problem with Vista, or did the Mac and PC commercials convince you that Vista sucks?

My partner did just that a few months and so far...so good.

But, I agree. I would not advise it either.

I also got Charter and come to find out, they were having issues all morning. I am not sure if that had something to do with it but it time wasted that I could have been surfing some pr0n instead of dealing with this crap.
