  • FWIW - Mizzou and Illini both in TSN Preseason Top 10

Mizzou at #6, Illini at #10.

When was the last time, if ever, both programs were rated this high at the same time?

SN's college football top 50 countdown
    July 6, 2008

Welcome to SN's countdown of the nation's top 50 teams: from South Beach to the Pacific Northwest, from L.A. to New Jersey, we've got you covered. From the surprises (yep, bowl-bound Ball State) to the obvious (Georgia, duh!), we'll get you ready for the start of a season that could be just as wild and wacky as last fall.

Enjoy the Feast of Fifty and get ready. They'll be dotting the i, running through the T and singing The Eyes of Texas before you know it. -- Matt Hayes

        Ahhhh. College football.

Now, let's hope the Mizzou boys don't get too busy reading their own hype. They have too big a game to start the season to come in big-headed and not focused.

In the past I would have worried about stuff like this, but I think Chase has a pretty firm hold on this team. I think they'll understand what kind of a challenge the Illini present.

            The Illini deserve better.

I think that, too. However, even tho last season washed away much of the past, there's still that little bit of worry back in the corner of my brain

As an Illinois fan, I think 10 is a tad bit high for us, and I put zero stock in preseason, but I won't complain. Nice to see them even in the discussion with top programs now. And it should only get better in the next few years.

Do the Illini have a RB ready to step into Mendenhall's void?

Is it going to be at the Ed again ?

Daniel Dufrene will likely carry the load. I believe they have a highly ranked Frosh coming in but I don't remember right now.

Dufrene only carred 47 times last year but had 294 yards rushing and 2 TD. Had the big 80 yard carry early in the Ohio State game last year that helped set the tone. He should be solid.

Of course with the good O line they have, and Juice running the ball a lot and his development at a QB, the need for Dufrene to be HUGE this year isn't a must. Arrelious Benn also carries the ball 2-3 times a game as well.
