  • Bernie's comments on LaRussa interview.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It was a strange experience, awkward at first...but Tony warmed up once he realized that I was going to do an interview, because fans want to know what's going on in camp and his impressions so far, and that I wouldn't be baited into something silly. The odd thing is, I got a call from my program director during the day, hours before the interview. He'd spoken with La Russa's agent, and the agent relayed that Tony was concerned about going on the air with me....I guess he was anxious about me ambushing him, or whatever, but that's not my style and I'd never disrespect KMOX like that. My only purpose was to ask baseball questions about the team in Jupiter. So here Tony was, apparently uneasy about a conflict, and then he gets on the air and tried to initiate something.

As I have said many times, I don't care if someone I cover likes me or not. I try to maintain a professional working relationship if at all possible, and so far I've been able to do that with Tony. I've had these little "spats" with just about every major figure I've covered here, and they are no big deal to me. With Tony, we've been at peace and at war and it always seems to even out. I just try to move forward, realizing that there are going to be hostilities whenever a columnist writes strong opinions that don't always flatter the subject.

For the record, I haven't written the Cardinals off. I guess I'm in the camp that compares starting pitching and sees this team as third-best in the division, going in. That's hardly a radical view. As I told Tony on the air last night, the Cardinals are better in the bullpen this season, and they have a good offense, and they're an outstanding defensive team, but they'll need a couple of starters to emerge and have big, unexpected seasons to close that starting-pitching gap on the Cubs and Astros. But after I said that, he repeated the "you've written the team off, and you've written me off," thing.

I give La Russa credit and respect for being willing to come on my show. A lot of people in his position would say something like, "I'm not coming on KMOX if he's hosting that night," or whatever. But he hasn't tried to pull any power plays. If he wants to do that, he can. I think that would reflect poorly on him. And it wouldn't affect my status at KMOX.

And I would never blame him for being upset by criticism. Just as I have the right to express an opinion, he has the right to be agitated by what I write if he disagrees or believes it's not fair to him. I am disappointed when those I cover have convenient memories -- apparently failing to recall all of the positive things I've said about them -- but such is life.

    Cheers,
    Bernie

Can't say I'm surprised LaRussa didn't want to do the show.

He's as paranoid as they come.
And, frankly, it has never occured to me that "winning" a debate is important, or that I should be hurt when someone like Airshark or kah, among others (for whom winning a pseudo debate or declaring intellectual superiority over invisible others is obviously very important) ridicule me.

Gosh, Sunny....with adoring fans like you around, how could he ever reach the point of paranoia?

Wow, Bernie Miklasz bitching and gazing at his navel. How about that.

I have to say that was one of the more interesting interviews I have heard.

The tension on TLR's side was quite huge. He did lighten up, but I would hear stuff and then like 10 seconds later be like ... oh my, did that really just get said? ...

            Funny stuff.

Nobody could do more navel gazing than the Squire.

              The world revolves around him.

                Still defending his man Tino.

                Repulsive.

We "only" paid 7 million to be rid of him.

Why would anyone consider his time here a failure?

                  Just too funny.

He should have just threatened to rock his world.

I wonder if that works on the ladies?
When you say to your neighbor, "We're having a loud party on Saturday night if that's alright with you," what you really mean is, "We're having a loud party on Saturday night."

I know. How dare LaRussa actually think highly of Tino as a person, when all of us here at the Lounge know better.

                        Kah,

If he was as terrific of a person as they say he is, dont you think they would have kept him around for his "intangibles" and "clubhouse leadership skills" and for being a "winner"?

Now, if one can question the manager's decisions and still be a terrific person, then I guess Tino fits the bill. I am pretty sure that TLR was the one behind getting rid of him, for questioning the Almighty one's managerial decisions.
“I’ve always stated, ‘I’m a Missouri Tiger,’” Anderson said March 13 after Arkansas fired John Pelphrey, adding, “I’m excited about what’s taking place here.”

Asked then if he would talk to his players about the situation, he said, “They know me, and that’s where the trust comes in.

                          Funny thing about Tino.

The players defend him. The manager defends him.

Yet...he was traded away for next to nothing we have to pay the bulk of his salary.

SOMEBODY wanted him gone. So SOMEONE is lying about how they feel about him.

                            Exactly.

It comes down to who in the organization has the biggest motive to lie.

I wonder who that would be?

                              Well I,

                              the fan,

Really wanted Tino gone. You know what I think a good clubhouse guy is - one who produces in the clutch.
