  • The city is back. Back the city.

Pilfering from another forum is bad form, I know. But there's some fantastic photography of downtown St. Louis here:

Just ten years ago some wrote off St. Louis' downtown... today, the city is alive and thriving as one of the freshest and newest revitalized cities in the country.

Took the Metro downtown today (JUNLY 1, 2008) for a short walk around the city around 2-3:30 p.m.

Downtown once again reigns as St. Louis' heartbeat epicenter. Enjoy the pics.

Wow, St Louis is AWESOME at street level. Totally badass.

I didn't mind scrolling downwards for two hours at all.

Hold on. I thought the city was dying/dead.

Who's right? This guy, or everyone on this board?
                Of course you do.

I guess one has to either have been born and raised in or near a big city, or really have a deep love for concrete and steel.

Big fan of The Dubliner. Wash street really grown nicely the last few years.

I am, however, disappointed that none of the city's fine bums made it into any of the pictures.

I love working downtown - it beats any other place I've worked. Just keeps getting better too.

I can understand those who prefer a rural setting for the scenery and serenity. Me, I like the excitement of the city and having the conveniences close by. I'm also a huge fan of architecture, and St. Louis in particular has some of the best Late- 19th-to-early- 20th century architecture in the country, as well as a few mid-century gems.

EDIT: FWIW, I was raised in Castlewood (a wooded village just south of Ballwin) and life in Affton currently. My dad is a big-time rural guy - he lives on 20 acres about 15 miles west of Union MO. Not sure where I got the affinity for the city, but it's not shared by my family.

I can bump Turd's thread about the hoosier fight next door if it'll make you feel more comfortable.
