From Peter Gammons' latest...
The whole Cubs thing is great, but why would Jim Edmonds ever have been hated just because he played for St. Louis in between stops in Anaheim and San Diego? His time with the Cubs could be a significant factor in the second half, especially considering the Cubs picked him up after he was released. Two things happened. First, Edmonds spent the offseason in SWAT team training with Skip Schumaker. "I can't believe what we did," says Edmonds. "I never appreciated how much we use our legs, and how important leg strength is." Second, when Edmonds was released by the Padres, he stopped using the medicine he'd taken for nearly two years after suffering concussions in St. Louis. "Right away, I felt the difference." Edmonds and Nick Swisher sang backup for Kenny Chesney in Chicago on Saturday night. Neither is planning to give up his day job for music, at least not for the time being.
