NFL Network has been unavailable in many of the nation's homes because of a dispute with cable TV operators who said the league wanted too much money for the signal, but there might be a resolution in the works.
The league and ESPN are discussing forming a partnership, The Wall Street Journal reported Friday.
Steve Bornstein, who runs NFL Network, previously was ESPN's chairman and was president of ABC, which both are owned by the Walt Disney Co.
Charter Communications, which, provides the service to the vast amount of those who subscribe to cable in the St. Louis market, has not carried NFL Network the last two seasons.
Charter wants to put it on a sports tier, in which those who subscribe pay an extra fee. The league wants it on a general expanded-basic package with stations such as ESPN, CNN, CNBC and TNT, so it has more potential viewers and thus can charger higher advertising rates.
