  • Obama's VP Selection -- GDT

We've had GDT for just about every other topic -- so why not one about who Obama will select for the VP spot -- something he said would be his most important decision during the campaign.

I'll start with the "who I don't think is on the list" list.

I think Jim Webb is off the short list. He just took McCain's side on off-shore drilling.

I'll also assume that Chris Dodd is out (probably was never really in) for his problems with the Countrywide scandal.

And I honestly don't think he will select Hillary -- too many quotes from her about how inexperienced he really is.

So, who do you think Obama will select?

There is a *slim* chance that he will pick someone who displeases Far.

            Joe Biden.

Gravitas, plus he can be a pit bull. Not sure why he'd want it -- he's probably more powerful in the Senate -- but you never know what might happen. Bobby Kennedy and all that.

My second choice as well, behind Webb.

Don't rule out an old-school conservative Dem like Sam Nunn, who also has the military and foreign policy bona fides.

Well since about 95% of the Lounge regulars are voting for Obama, I thought an Obama GDT might be a tad bit more active. But feel free to start a McCain one if you like.

I think Sam Nunn of about 5 or so years ago would have been a good choice. But have you seen him lately? He looks really old. Almost McCain old.

Biden would be tough to control during the campaign. I can see him saying some really off the wall stuff. I think of him in a cabinet position -- like Secretary of State or Secretary of Defense.
