  • The trees need a pruning...

    Minds out of the gutter...

I need some tree trimming on a few of my trees in my backyard...I'd love to do it myself, but some of these dead limbs are way too damn high for me to get to (safely, at least)...

Anyone have any recommendations or what kind of prices I can expect?

Too high for a 12' pruning saw? You can pick up a decent extension saw for around $50. Now that Father's Day is over, you might find them cheaper.

I haven't hired a tree service before because pruning isn't very difficult. The biggest advantage to hiring out is that they haul off the limbs when they're done.

007, let me know if you buy an extension saw, i think that would be your most affordable option. I have some trees i have to cut as well and i would have interest in splitting the cost of the extension if its not too much.

we have a couple of bradford pears in my house that had gotten absolutely huge in the last few years..

to get ~1500 pounds of branches taken off and hauled away costs us about $400...

We learned the hard way a few years ago that those babies need to be trimmed every so often. When they get to big, a moderate wind can cause big limbs to break.

or you could just wait for a strong wind. I had one in my front yard that snapped like a twig. Beautifully shaped tree, but not real durable.

Bradford Pears are the worst trees ever. I would cut those things down and replace them.

Brad's are excellent shade trees, despite their weakness.

I wouldn't recommend Bradford Pears as a shade tree. If you get one to last 25 years, you're lucky. There are hundreds of varieties of oak, maple and ash trees that grow fast, live long, and are low maintenance.

And remember kids, the shorter the bush, the taller the tree.

or, you could throw all the limbs in one corner of your property and say that it is your compost pile. No $ for hauling them away and your neighbors will love you for it.

Too tall for a 12' pruning saw unless I use my deck in a dangerous manner...

It's basically two, pin oaks that need dead limbs and heavily sagging branches that could snap...

                          I don't think the debris would weigh 1500 el-bees...

Do you have a ladder/extension ladder to prop against the trunk, and then use the pole saw.

Dear God, KBF here. I'd just like to say thanks, once again, for allowing Dusty Baker and I to live during the same time period. Every time I think he's given me his last gift -- overpitching Prior in the playoffs, getting cocky in Game 6 vs. the Angels, blowing another game for the Cubs -- he does something stupid like pitching to Albert Pujols. Thy will be done, baby!!!!!
