    Mortgage turmoil snares Ed McMahon

    June 4, 2008

Ed McMahon, the longtime sidekick to Johnny Carson on "The Tonight Show," is fighting to avoid foreclosure on his multimillion-dollar Beverly Hills estate.

McMahon defaulted on $4.8 million in mortgage loans with a unit of Countrywide Financial Corp., which filed a notice of default in March, according to ForeclosureRadar, a company that sells default data pulled from public records.

The 85-year-old pitchman for various products, including American Family Publishers, is the highest-profile person to be caught up in the nationwide real estate downturn and mortgage crunch.

I dont understand why guys like Ed McMahon even have mortgages. You'd think his home would have been paid off a long time ago.

I've always wondered things like that too. I guess living outside your means is always relative.

I had the exact same thought. This is a guy who made serious money for a long time, and yet he's not only still making mortgage payments, he borrowed a TON of money.

They were talking about this on Howard Stern and they quoted some article that said he had made $200 million during his career.

Well, I don't feel sorry for him at all. I suppose when he got those fat checks he should have paid down on the home. DER DE DER!!

                  Add Holyfield to the list...

Evander Holyfield's Georgia Estate Under Foreclosure

                  Thursday , June 05, 2008

                  FAYETTEVILLE, Ga. —
Former heavyweight champion Evander Holyfield appears to be having financial problems. A legal notice that appeared in a local newspaper shows his Fayette County estate is under foreclosure. The home worth an estimated $10 million is set to be auctioned by a bank on July 1.
The mother of one of Holyfield's nine children says he has missed two child-support payments. Toi Irvin, who lives in Clayton County, filed a petition for contempt in Fayette County Superior Court on behalf of her 10-year-old son.
Irvin says she was told by Holyfield's representatives not to expect the payment for May and June totaling $6,000.
The 45-year-old Holyfield has declined comment on the child-support allegations and the foreclosure.
If you believe in something sacrifice a hobo to it or don't bother.

McMahon was on Larry King last night talking about it. It seemed almost like a plea for help, quite sad really. He looked like he had one foot in the coffin already.
