A black man now has enough delegates to be the Democratic Party's presidential candidate. I never thought I'd live long enough to see this day, that's for sure.

    It's really amazing.

Frankly, I never thought I'd see the day, either, but then Obama came out of nowhere. He's the most effective speaker I've ever heard.
His mind is not for rent, to any god or government.

His acceptance speech will come on the anniversary of King's "I Have a Dream" speech. Expectations won't be too high.....

I'm going with the Associated Press. They're always right.

I certainly trust them more than CNN.

AP says so, if you include the minimum number he will get in Montana and S.D. and superdelegates who have said they're supporting him but just haven't publicly declared.

We're calling it here at the Lounge's Election Center.

Obama clinches nomination, Clinton open to VP slot
                            The Associated Press
                            Tuesday, June 3, 2008; 5:23 PM

WASHINGTON -- Barack Obama clinched the Democratic presidential nomination Tuesday, becoming the first black candidate to lead a major party into a campaign for the White House. Vanquished rival Hillary Rodham Clinton swiftly signaled an interest in joining the ticket as his running mate.

Obama arranged a victory celebration in St. Paul, Minn., at the site of this summer's Republican National Convention _ an in-your-face gesture to Sen. John McCain, who will be his opponent in the race to become the nation's 44th president.

The 46-year-old Obama outlasted Clinton in a historic campaign that sparked record turnouts in primary after primary, yet exposed deep racial and gender divisions within the party.
