New Sprint Center in Kansas City will host first preseason NHL game

Kansas City, MO – Sprint Center announced that the Los Angeles Kings and St. Louis Blues will play a neutral site game on Monday, Sept. 22, 2008. The teams will face off at Kansas City’s new arena at 7:05 p.m.
Luc Robitaille, President of the Los Angeles Kings Hockey Club, and Al MacInnIs, St. Louis Blues Hall of Famer, joined General Manager Brenda Tinnen in making the announcement at Sprint Center today.
“Sprint Center is delighted to host two storied franchises at our first-ever preseason NHL game,” said Brenda Tinnen, Sprint Center General Manager and Senior Vice President. “We look forward to welcoming hockey fans from throughout the region -- showcasing both Kansas City and our venue.”
Ticket prices for the Kings vs. Blues start at only $10. Additional tickets are available at a variety of levels including $25, $50, $60, $75 and on ice seats for $150 each. Tickets go on sale Saturday, May 31 at Ticketmaster outlets, ticketmaster.com and charge by phone at (816) 931-3330. Discounts are available for groups of 10 or more. Group tickets are on sale now and may be purchased by calling 816.949.7175 or e-mailing [email protected].
Fans attending the pre-season match up between the Kings and the Blues will enjoy Sprint Center’s state of the art technology and hockey atmosphere. Opened on Oct. 10, 2007, Sprint Center Kansas City’s home for sports, concerts, family shows, collegiate competitions and special events.
Elton John’s grand opening concert on Oct. 13, 2007, was the first of several sold out performances and events during Sprint Center’s inaugural year. Kansas City has welcomed a variety of diverse shows to date including Rascal Flatts, Billy Joel, Reba McEntire, two sold out Bon Jovi shows and nine record breaking sold out shows by Garth Brooks -- including a live broadcast into more than 300 movie theaters around the world.
Home to the College Basketball Experience, Sprint Center hosted the 2008 Big 12 Men’s Basketball Championships and will see first- and second- round action of the 2009 NCAA Men’s Basketball Championships and 2010 NCAA Women's Basketball Regional.
Sprint Center will exceed initial attendance projections having welcomed more than 1,000,000 guests since opening.
