  • Pineiro on the DL. Parisi to start Sat

So maybe they didn't make up the groin injury.

The Cardinals placed starting pitcher Joel Pineiro on the 15-day disabled list today and promoted reliever Kelvin Jimenez from Triple-A Memphis.

Mike Parisi, who pitched two scoreless innings of relief Tuesday night, will make Pineiro's scheduled start Saturday against Pittsburgh.

Pineiro's stint on the DL will be backdated to last week, when he suffered a strained groin while shagging flies before a game in San Diego. He missed his scheduled start Tuesday night.

Barring a setback, Pineiro is expected to return to the starting rotation next week in Washington.

Jimenez had a three-game stint with the Cardinals early this season. He pitched 20 games at Memphis covering 24 innings, and was 1-2 with one save and a 1.88 earned-run average. He had 14 strikeouts and issued only three walks.

Parisi is 0-1 with a 3.29 ERA for the Cardinals after starting the season in Memphis. All the pitchers involved are righthanders.

hmmm. why not put him on display to trade?

The Cardinals could give reliever Mike Parisi the start Saturday, or they could place Pineiro on the disabled list and recall a reliever or spot starter from Class AAA Memphis. Anthony Reyes is 1-0 with a 2.04 ERA in four starts for the Cardinals affiliate.

I assume you're referring to Ant'ny. Duncan said on 1380 this morning that they expect Jorel's DL stint to be short, and didn't think it would serve Reyes' development/recovery if he was yanked up to the majors, then sent right back down.

Prob because it's likely only for 1 start.

That, and he's shit the bed for the last 2 seasons.

Sounds like bs to me. If Reyes pitched well, it could really turn into a problem for Duncan and LaRussa.

I doubt the plane ride would bother Reyes.

Dear God, KBF here. I'd just like to say thanks, once again, for allowing Dusty Baker and I to live during the same time period. Every time I think he's given me his last gift -- overpitching Prior in the playoffs, getting cocky in Game 6 vs. the Angels, blowing another game for the Cubs -- he does something stupid like pitching to Albert Pujols. Thy will be done, baby!!!!!

Why bring him up for just one start?

Makes zero sense, much like your mancrush on Brad Thompson...

We have already established that Reyes can pitch at AAA.

                The problems start after that.

And Al Gore claimed he invented the internet.

I guess Thompson is still down there---I did not bother to check.

I did make note that Looper's era is over 5, now, after a good start. I was puzzled by his being locked in as the unchallenged number 2.
