So maybe they didn't make up the groin injury.
The Cardinals placed starting pitcher Joel Pineiro on the 15-day disabled list today and promoted reliever Kelvin Jimenez from Triple-A Memphis.
Mike Parisi, who pitched two scoreless innings of relief Tuesday night, will make Pineiro's scheduled start Saturday against Pittsburgh.
Pineiro's stint on the DL will be backdated to last week, when he suffered a strained groin while shagging flies before a game in San Diego. He missed his scheduled start Tuesday night.
Barring a setback, Pineiro is expected to return to the starting rotation next week in Washington.
Jimenez had a three-game stint with the Cardinals early this season. He pitched 20 games at Memphis covering 24 innings, and was 1-2 with one save and a 1.88 earned-run average. He had 14 strikeouts and issued only three walks.
Parisi is 0-1 with a 3.29 ERA for the Cardinals after starting the season in Memphis. All the pitchers involved are righthanders.
