  • Hannu Toivonen signs with Finnish team

    Hannu Toivonen, Troy Milam ja
    Pasi Järvinen Ilveksen uudet hankinnat

    28.5.2008 / Ilves-Hockey Oy / th

Ilves on hankkinut riveihinsä maalivahti Hannu Toivosen (24) ja amerikkalaisen puolustajan Troy Milamin (27). Hyökkääjä Lassi Mattilan (20) kanssa Ilves on tehnyt jatkosopimuksen. Sopimukset kattavat ensi kauden. Lisäksi Mestiksen parhaaksi puolustajaksi valittu Pasi Järvinen (32) on tryout-sopimuksella elokuun loppuun asti.
Toivonen on NHL-seura Boston Bruinsin ensimmäisen kierroksen varaus vuodelta 2002. Viimeiset viisi kautta Toivonen on pelannut Pohjois-Amerikassa. Hänellä on takanaan 61 NHL-ottelua Boston Bruinsissa ja St. Louis Bluesissa. Lisäksi Toivonen on torjunut pitkälti yli 100 ottelua AHL-liigassa.
Troy Milam on pelannut yliopistoliigan jälkeen AHL:ssä 174 ottelua. Viime kaudella Milam pelasi Manchester Monarchsin ykköspakkina playoffit mukaan lukien 79 ottelua, joissa hän iski tehot 13+26=39. Oikealta ampuvaa Milamia luonnehditaan nopeaksi ja hyväksi luistelijaksi, jolla on hyvä kiekollinen taito sekä kova laukaus. Milam on 183-senttinen ja painaa 84 kg.
Viime kaudella sekä liigassa että LeKin Mestis-joukkueessa keskushyökkääjänä pelannut Mattila on Ilveksen oma kasvatti, jolla on jo tuntuvasti liigakokemusta. Mattilan sopimus on kaksisuuntainen. Ilveksellähän on farmiyhteistyö Mestis-joukkue Lempäälän Kisan kanssa.
Kahdella viime kaudella Mestiksen parhaana puolustajana palkittu TuTon Pasi Järvinen on taitava kiekollinen puolustaja, joka on myös dominoinut Mestiksen puolustajien pistepörssiä. Hänen saldonsa kahdelta viime kaudelta on runkosarjassa 77 ottelussa 19+64=83 ja playoffeissa 19 ottelussa 1+15=16

According to somebody on HF, that's what that says. Clears up the roadblock in Peoria some, I suppose. No great loss, either.

This is awesome. It pretty much forces the Blues to get a legit backup via free agency which IMO should have been their #1 priority anyway. Ideally they'll sign a back up who has a chance to take over the #1 role in a post-Manny world and allow Bishop to continue to develop.

At this piont it might be wise to draft another goalie next month... maybe look at Chet Pickard and see if he's still available at #33/#34.

I agree that the Blues need a reliable backup, but I think they need a powerplay quarterback more than anything else.

What is it about the Blues that gives them so many problems in net? At least Legace has been very good since he got here.

I hear ya. It'll be interesting to see what premiums NHL teams put on the UFA defenders coming available in July.
