Poll Time: Lets Make a Deal for a Defenseman

    May 23, 2008, 2:02 PM ET [175 Comments]

While I attempt to catch up on some much needed rest (long week... don't ask), it seemed like a good opportunity to take some time to ponder a statement Hextall told season ticket holders on Tuesday. First, that most draft type transactions start within 48 hours of the draft. Second, the Kings were looking to trade for a young defenseman between now and the draft.

In defining "young defenseman", Hextall specifically said that 30 year olds with 1 year left on their contract do not count. No details beyond that were offered. There is also a interesting post on letsgokings.com that would be fun to debate. Is there any current player in the NHL (forget Malkin, Crosby and Ovechkin) that you would trade in exchange for the Kings' #2 pick in the NHL draft.

So... on a dark rainy Los Angeles day, lets make a deal..... Any takers?

Would they take Brewer? Would the note give up Brewer?

There is absolutely no way the Kings would take Brewer for the number two. Presumably it would be Brewer and the 3 for the 2, which is a dumb trade for the Blues. Now if they wanted to do, say, Cammalleri and the 2 for Brewer and the 3...

I think we would give up Brewer if the deal was right, but there is no way the King's would take him and give us the #2 pick. There would have to be more coming to LA.

You mean the 4th, right? Brewer and our 4th would be a terrible trade for the Blues.

Yeah, sorry about that. I meant the fourth.

I think by 'young', they might mean someone under the age of 25...

A Jackman/Cole/2nd round pick type of package deal might intrigue them.

I'd be more willing to give up Brewer than Jackman though.

                Jackman sucks worse than Brewer...

Who is going to give up a promising D man under 25 for the right to pick a promising D prospect? Doesn't make much sense a'tall.

                    Neither does them wanting Brewer...

That's debatable. Jackman is much more of a team player and leader than Eric Brewer will ever be.

                        Who cares?

                          Does anyone really 'want' Brewer?

                          Besides Andy Murray?

Obviously, you do. You said Jackman sucks worse than Brewer...

If Salvador somehow winds up back here, I'd want him here...
