it deserves its own thread
The Cardinals have added Memphis Redbirds closer Chris Perez to their roster as the team seeks relief for the back end of its bullpen.
No announcement has been made regarding the status of Jason Isringhausen, the team's all-time saves leader.
Perez, 22, is a 6-foot-4 righthander who has been highly successful against Triple-A competition this season.
He racked up 22 strikeouts in 17.2 innings to go with eight saves and a 2.04 ERA. Opposing hitters batted .190 against him, with lefthanders batting only .130.
Perez was a supplemental first-round draft pick (42nd overall) out of Miami (Fla.) in 2006.

It is uncertain at this point what role Perez will serve in the Cardinals bullpen. STLtoday.com will have more on Perez, and Isringhausen, as the stories develop.
