  • Unassisted triple play for Asdrubal Cabrera

My humble apologies if this is a duplicate thread. But if it isn't, Asdrubal Cabrebra made the 14th unassisted triple play in MLB history. Which is cool.

Awesome how the color guy was calling it before the ball was CAUGHT.

The thing about unassisted TPs is that they're basically random chance. Any middle infielder at the right place at the right time who has a ball lined right to him can make an unassisted TP. Not like a pitcher throwing a perfect game or a batter hitting four home runs, each of whom have to excel for one game, even if they're non-entities like Pat Seerey or Len Barker.

        But still, it's cool.

This couldn't go in the MLB GDT?

No, because it's a goddamn unassisted triple play, of which there have been fourteen in 133 major league seasons.

Are you saying that Bill Wambsganss isn't a World Series legend?

Kind of cool that both an unassisted triple play and a perfect game have happened in the Series.

Do you know what's really odd? The cycle, and the whole deal people make when a batter hits the cycle.

Say Albert Pujols comes up in the ninth needing a double for the cycle. He hits a home run instead. Should we be disappointed?

Read about some high school kid the other day who hit a one-run HR, two-run HR, three-run HR, and GS in the same game. Now that's getting stuff done.

And, as the trivia fiends will tell you, Wambsganss' unassisted TP is the only TP ever in WS play, and Larsen's perfect game was the only no-hitter ever in postseason play. (I confess I do not know if there has ever been a TP in some other postseason game since the playoffs were expanded in 1969).

Pretty cool. Only other triple play I ever saw was a line out to 3rd where the 3rd baseman tagged the runner going to 3rd from 2nd, and then threw to first to double off the runner there as well.

Also, unassisted triple plays have almost caught four-HR games...

On a bit of a run lately.
