  • Rep. Backs Bill To Decriminalize Marijuana

WASHINGTON -- Rep. William Lacy Clay is supporting a bill that would decriminalize small amounts of marijuana.

The Missouri Democrat has signed on as a co-sponsor of the measure to eliminate federal penalties for possessing up to 100 grams -- or about 3.5 ounces -- of marijuana for personal use.

The bill also would remove penalties for the not-for-profit transfer of up to one ounce of marijuana between adults.

Clay is only the third lawmaker to sign onto the bill introduced last month by Rep. Barney Frank, a Massachusetts Democrat.
Frank says prosecuting people for smoking marijuana is an unwise use of law enforcement resources.

Three and a half ounces is not a small amount.

That's true, but for a regular smoker, that's enough to last him a while.

You're welcome to come over any time F...3 1/2 ounces would last me about 3 or 4 weeks. I don't get high as often as I used to or as often as I would like to. I don't smoke before work any more, so that alone saves me lots of weed. And I generally don't smoke until after dinner. Gotta curb the munchies...Week-ends are a different story.

Yeah I was gonna say less than three weeks.

But in terms of sentencing guidelines and the War on Americans .. it's supposed to be a lot.

Anyhting over two ounces is a felony in Texas.

Any amount will get you arrested here, too.

3.5 ounces isn't really that much weed.

That's over $500 worth of pot. That's a lot for a recreational user to have at one time.

If $500 is getting you less than three and a half ounces, you're overpaying.

Three and a half ounces at the Texas retail price of $80 per ounce amounts to $280.

Again, it's not that much pot for a recreational user who doesn't want to make 10 trips to the dealer's pad.

Buy in bulk, I always say.
