Rangers bad boy Sean Avery, unconscious and not breathing, was rushed to a Manhattan hospital Wednesday in cardiac arrest just hours after his team's playoff loss, sources said.

Avery, 28, arrived at St. Vincent's Medical Center about 3 a.m., a hospital source said. Five hours earlier, the Rangers lost to the Pittsburgh Penguins in a Stanley Cup playoff game at Madison Square Garden.

He remained in the intensive care unit this afternoon, the hospital source said.
Avery, traded to the Rangers last year from Los Angeles, lives in Manhattan. The single winger is known for dating a bevy of celebrities, including Rachel Hunter and Elisha Cuthbert.

Sean Avery has a lacerated spleen and will be out the remainder of the season, sources tell TSN.
The source went on to say that the laceration was detected with a CT scan after Avery was taken to hospital following the Game 3 with the Penguins.
The New York Rangers expect Avery to make a full recovery in the off-season.
The 28-year-old winger played over 14 minutes in the Rangers 5-3 loss to the Penguins. He recorded one assist and had three shots on net.
During the regular season Avery picked up 15 goal and 18 assists, with a plus-6 rating over his 57 games. He has four goals and three assists in eight playoff games.

Cardiac arrest wouldn't have been cool. But lacerated spleen? Meh. Fuck 'im. Spleens aren't important anyway. I'm glad he'll be out the rest of the playoffs.

Since he's probably not going to die, can we laugh about this?

What are the odds Marty Brodeur gets arrested for trespassing after standing over his hospital bed and waving his stick in his face?

I was expecting the report to say that they were unable to find a heart.

At first glance I read it as the Rams' Avery being rushed to the hospital. I thought we had another Len Bias on our hands.
