    Will the outcome of the November election affect your retirement investments? Probably not. In theory, you should watch the Fed, not the voting booth. But, if past history has any meaning, this is what we should expect.

    When Republicans controlled Congress and the White House, bond returns were higher.

    When Democrats controlled Congress and the White House, stock returns were higher.

    When it's political gridlock, small cap stocks perform worse, but large cap stocks perform the same.
