  • KC Chiefs Trade DE Jared Allen to Vikings

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) -- The Kansas City Chiefs reportedly have traded Pro Bowl defensive end Jared Allen to the Minnesota Vikings.

Citing a source, The Kansas City Star reported that Allen went to Minnesota on Tuesday night to sign a six-year contract worth just under $74 million with more than $31 million guaranteed. The deal would be one of the largest for a defensive player.

The Chiefs are expected to get the Vikings' first-round pick (No. 17) and both the Vikings' third-round selections (73rd and 82nd). It would give the Chiefs six picks in the first 82 players in this weekend's draft and 13 total.

The Chiefs would not confirm the trade late Tuesday, and president/general manager Carl Peterson and coach Herm Edwards were unavailable.

Allen led the NFL last season with 15 1/2 sacks.
Six of the first 82 picks? That must be nice.

Bet the Rams would take the 17th to drop from 2 to 5.

No doubt. Of course since they traded away Allen the reason the Chiefs would want to move up would be to select a DE, the same position we need to fill. With J. Long off the board that would give the Chiefs C. Long and Dorsey goes to the Falcons. If the Raiders go running back that would still leave Gholston at 5. Nice deal for the Rams.

      Do it.

I suppose Charlie Sheen can now rejoice in the knowledge that there's no way Gholston falls to the Patriots at seven, but my guess would be that if KC traded up into our spot they'd take Dorsey. Even if they did take Long or Gholston, the other of those two would fall to us. Shit, if they took Long, DORSEY may fall to us at five. Talk about a windfall if we could get Dorsey and, say, Brandon Alberts at 17.

Kansas City would be out of their minds to offer these two picks to move up.

Besides the unlikeliness of it, it's pretty tough to come up with the dough to pay for two high 1st rounders.

If I were Kansas City, when their turn comes up at 17, I would call Dallas to see if there would be any way the Cowboys would trade 22 and 28 for 17. (If I were Dallas, I would hang up on them.)

I'd also call Atlanta to see if they could get, say, 34, 48 and 98 for 17 so the Falcons can take a quarterback (should the Falcons not take Matt Ryan third overall).

If the Rams take Dorsey, who would the Falcons take besides Ryan?

I would stick with Ryan. They need to build around a QB again, hopefully he does not like dogs.

Does anyone else have this feeling that the top 10, in particular, is going to take forever? I know they've shortened the time between picks, but I think there could be a lot of wheeling and dealing. Maybe, I'm way off base, but that's my initial thought...

So are the Vikings only left with a 2nd on the first day and then there picks from the 4th on??

Seems dangerous. They better hit on that 2nd (and win next year)

I don't think there will be a single trade in the top six.

Really, I'm still not convinced that the Rams aren't looking to move down a few spots and maybe get an additional 2nd rounder in return. I could be way off base. It just seems, from what we're being told by the media, that the Rams really are uncertain about who they'd prefer to pick. Maybe, they'll slide down a few spots, so someone can get McFadden or Dorsey, and the Rams still end up with C. Long.

That being said, you're probably right. There won't be a single trade.

I think there will be lots of talk and no action in the top six.
