  • Buying things on Craigslist... stolen?

I've recently purchased a few things for building my house that came across as REALLY good deals and 2 of my closest friends constantly give me shit that I'm purchasing stolen goods and I should KNOW that they're stolen and should stay away from them.

How much of the stuff you think advertised on Craigslist for sale is actually stolen goods?

I'm having pangs of guilt about it to some degree but damn some of that stuff has saved me so much $$$.

Probably stolen...if it seems like too good of a deal...it probably is.

Now..if you cant get in trouble for it...then dont worry.

Home Depot and Lowes get robbed all the time. Usually the meth heads just return the stuff for a gift card and then sell it for cheap.

Well none of the things I've purchased yet were brand new for ridiculously cheap so I don't know if that's the case or not... hell, it might be same thing.

I've still got some office furniture to get rid of, FREE. I'm having a hell of a time even triying to donate it. I've never used Craig's List but am thinking of giving it shot.

I've bought a spool of quad shield coax, a spool of Cat5e, and a miscellaneous lot of landscaping fabric.

I think every seller said they were leftover from a previous job.

If my memory from my Business Ethics class serves me well, you are not responsible for purchasing stolen goods unless you know prior to the sale that the goods are stolen.

Happens all the time. Guys are always asking for stuff that has been bought and is left over. We recently took a bunch of old cabinets to Hoods and then bought lunch w/the money. What the guys do with stuff it after they leave here...who only knows. The only thing we have had issues with is any copper on the job. We just make sure that only a few people know where it is stored in case it comes up missing. I don't think you have anything to worry about.

If anything - Bob working for Tel-Vi is ordering the stuff thru his company, selling it on Craigslist and then telling his boss that someone on the job stole it.

The landscaping fabric isn't a big deal - that's just guys cutting corners on site and not putting it all down or whatever.

We had a job where structural steel pieces kept coming up "missing" - even though we knew they were delivered to the site. Well, one of the guys was into demo derbys...he was taking those pieces home to put them in his car.

I could go on and on...but I'm sure you get the idea.
