  • So I got a puppy

And he's all cute and stuff.

He was paper trained when we got him, and he's gotten pretty good now about whining when he needs to go outside.

But every now and again he just pees for no reason, almost like he has no idea what's going on, but still gets this guilty oh shit i'm in trouble look and acts all cute to make you not mad at him. Sometimes I think he can't help it. And yesterday he was all curled up sleeping, got up and let loose a little bit and didn't even seem to realize it.

Most of the time he's good though and holds it.

Any ideas? Is this just a puppy thing, or is it possible he's got some kind of bladder infection?

I'm starting to get sick of cleaning up piss.

Well you'd mind less if you wouldn't let him piss on your head.

They told us its beagle/boston terrier.

He was a rescue with 2 other littermates.

praise praise praise when he potties outside. give him time and it will all be fine. Jack wasn't potty trained when I got him because he had never been in a house before so he hiked his leg on the refrigerator once and I just made him go outside really fast and wouldn't take him in until he hiked his leg out there and then praised him a lot.

I do. I make a big deal every time he goes outside.

I'm just worried about the times when he makes no conscious effort to go out or let us know, or find his puppy paper. Its like he's standing there all happy and silly and the next minutes he's watering the floor. Didn't know if that was normal puppy stuff or not.

he looks young yet. You can get those things to put on the floor by the door. This is all normal judging from how young he looks.

We have a Beagle/Jack Russell mix. You can tell that it isn't a pure Jack Russell because the ears are bigger (more floppy) than a Jack Russell usually has.

                        Cute dog.

Dear God, KBF here. I'd just like to say thanks, once again, for allowing Dusty Baker and I to live during the same time period. Every time I think he's given me his last gift -- overpitching Prior in the playoffs, getting cocky in Game 6 vs. the Angels, blowing another game for the Cubs -- he does something stupid like pitching to Albert Pujols. Thy will be done, baby!!!!!

What I did with Bud, was every time he was playing and stopped or was sleeping and woke up, I threw his ass outside til he pottied. Then, like CG said, praise praise and bring him in. Sometimes he prolly didn't have to go, but if he stopped what he was doin, I threw him out.
He learned pretty quick and other than about a month- 6 weeks when he hit a growth spurt, he never pissed in the house. Even then it was more of a dribble than full piss. never pooped in the house either. The vet said sometimes dogs will have a growth spurt and their bodies grow faster than their organs (such as the bladder) and they know they have to go , but dribble before they can get outside.
