  • Bush backs pause in withdrawals from Iraq

President Bush on Thursday said "serious and complex challenges" remain in Iraq that will prevent further withdrawals of U.S. troops this summer despite a reduction in violence in the past year.

Accepting a recommendation from Petraeus, Bush said he would reduce combat tours from 15 to 12 months.

The shortened tours would apply only to troops deployed on or after August 1 and would not cutback tours for those currently in Iraq.

"Our nation owes a special thanks to the soldiers and families who have supported this extended deployment," Bush said.
Yep, the thanks we give those over there prior to August 1st is to not include them in the reduced combat tour policy.

    Fuck off, Bush.

I am shocked. If McCain does not denounce him and disassociate himself from Bush, I am going to consider voting for a democrat.

I saw Nixon waving from the airplane steps in 1974 after resigning.

I saw the early stages of Reagan's Alzheimers while he was still in office.

I saw Clinton handle personal shit---largely inconsequential for the country----in crazy ways. I was more disturbed by some of his foreign and domestic policies---but I did not think that they were crazy.

Bush on tv today was the craziest sob I have ever seen serving as potus.

I saw Jimmy Carter being utterly clueless.

I saw Lyndon Johnson get us into a war that killed nearly 15 times as many as in Iraq and was based on a complete lie.

Now this fellas...is a But the Democrats post.

I think you are right about LBJ----but his stepping down instead of facing the voters, his manipulation of HHH and the democratic delegates always made me feel he was just a little too aware of things to be completely nuts.

If they are civilians of course. Granted civilian oversight is there for a reason (and it's role works for what it is intended for) but civilians understand shit about the military, this includes some of you guys, no offense. Although one reason why these tours are long is they just can't send them over 6 months bring them back for 2-3 and send them back is because a lot of these guys are reservist and guard who can't do that!. exception for the Air Force... I'm not even going to start about those guys.

This has fuck all to do with Bush and the current Republican regime, but at least you got your pony out of the barn.
From this day forward, I no longer shall tinker with the machinery of death.

For more than 20 years I have endeavored-indeed, I have struggled-along with a majority of this Court, to develop procedural & substantive rules that would lend more than the mere appearance of fairness to the death penalty endeavor.

I feel morally and intellectually obligated simply to concede that the death penalty experiment has failed.

The path the Court has chosen lessens us all. I dissent.
