You got any info on what it is that Michigan might be doing to support Ryan Mallet's appeal for eligibility next year at Arkansas? I saw this in a column from one of the Arkansas publications:

Back to Mallet, I am not ready to hop on the thought train that thinks Mallet’s appeal to the NCAA for the right to play next year without having to sit out a year is valid or will succeed. Standard NCAA protocol calls for a player that transfers to wait a year before becoming eligible to play. On the surface, this is a non-starter for most players. This appears to be the same for Mallet. Except it has not been open and shut as the NCAA has taken its time rendering an opinion for something that should be automatic.

Maybe the NCAA is busy with other things right now. I have heard as others have that Michigan sent support to the NCAA for Mallet’s immediate eligibility. This is not common operating procedure for the school being transferred from to send support. I have an old saying that “if things don’t make sense, it means you don’t have all the information.” I am starting to believe there is more in this case than meets the eye because things are not making sense. Also, Mallet has been taking snaps after Casey Dick. If he has no shot at playing next year, he should be the last guy taking snaps.

Truth be told, the success of Petrino’s offense next season hinges on an available Mallet.

I watched Mallet play firshand last year. Going to be a very good player. Jeez, is he big or what?

I dont see the NCAA allowing it. That would open up some worms, if by no other way than other kids saying they are leaving anytime a new coach gets there. They'd say they dont like X or Y about him and that it would be a clash and they couldnt play for him.......

I might see Mallet's point but I also see the NCAA point of view in the long run.

The NCAA will deny it, purely because allowing it would be best for the student-athlete.

In reality, allowing it would set an awful precident where players would move around as much as coaches.

Living in Detroit there has been nothing of this here in the Media. Since he is no longer here I think most people could care less. The big news is the 0-6 Tigers.

I see the NCAA's viewpoint too, but if the school from which the kid is transferring doesn't object to his being immediately eligible, doesn't that sort of take care of the NCAA's concern? I wonder if it does because the author of that article is correct - this should have been a rubber stamped "no" a long time ago.
