This section here shows how stupid people can be:

When questioned about the mortgage crisis, Americans blamed government officials more than banks or home buyers and other borrowers for the turmoil, the newspaper said. Forty percent of respondents said regulators were mostly to blame, while 28 percent named lenders and 14 percent named borrowers, according to the poll.

When in doubt blame the government.

You do realize that just about every state wanted to regulate predatory lending practices but the federal government used an obscure regulatory commission to override all of that. Spitzer was speaking out about that just before he got creamed

Let's be honest here. Many of these foreclosures are due to people falling for the old "if it sounds too good to be true it usually is" routine. Just read the fine print people!!!

Blame them for not doing their jobs and regulating these idiots.
I blame them more than the banks too, I expect big business to fuck me over in favor of trying to make money, that is what they do. That is why the governments job is oversight of shit like that, and they laid down on the job in favor of their big contributors making money.

On which one of the hundred documents that you are asked to review when you go in to sign your name 50 times?

I think it's bullshit that they don't give you the legal documents until the day of the closing.

                BTW, that's called predatory lending.

You're also not the type that the lenders were targeting with these loans.

Maybe one day they'll pass enough laws to protect the stupid people from themselves. The government and even the evil lenders didn't force anyone to buy a home they couldn't afford.

Also, if the government started blocking loans they would have been accused of preventing hard working people from achieving their dream of home ownership. And God forbid some of those loans were going to go to minorities.

Guess the credit card companies are next.

Aren't people responsible for finding out the facts for themselves?

The government should not have only been protecting the people who took out those loans with better oversight. But they would have been protecting the rest of us at the same time, it's the entire economy that is fucked up because of this not just the people who took out the loans.

When they originated the loan they could afford their home.
