Cella, who works at the Fine Art Studio of Rotblatt-Amrany in Highwood, had scrutinized the things that mattered most to him as the sculptor. How was the patina? Excellent. Was the inscription on the correct side of the granite base? Yes, it was. Right down there on Ernie’s left it said:

When I saw that the Cubs had unveiled a statue of Banks on Opening Day at Wrigley, one question did come to mind. Banks' last season was 1971. This is 2008. Why did they wait 37 years to do a statue of him? The only thing i could think of would be if they plan on building a series of other former Cub players in the near, similar to what the Cardinals did with the statues of Ozzie, Brock, Gibson, Jack Buck, Dizzy Dean, and maybe on or two others in the last several years at Busch II.
