  • Best "PDA" for accessing the web

What is the best device for accessing the web from work or on the road when you don't have access to a computer.

Something for accessing a place like the lounge, ESPN.

I really like the iPod touch but it's just Wi-Fi and that isn't an option. And I don't want to get new cell phone service to use the iPhone.

    I currently have Sprint.

My work-issued Treo does OK. Takes a while for places like the Lounge to load up.

Can you post and everything? Is it a pain in the ass or is it worth having to get on the net with?

Maybe a small laptop and a broadband card.

Yes I can post. Takes longer, obviously, but I can post. I posted this morning using the phone. And AFAIK you can only have one browser at a time open; dunno how other phones work. But it works fine.

Yaks...how much time do you have on your current contract with Sprint?

That is who I have also, and I found a highly recommended phone/PDA thing they offer but my current contract goes through next February and it would cost me $400 (versus $100 if I was able to get the discount price for re-upping my contract)...

Unfortunately the Sprint site is undergoing maintenance right now so I can't look up which device it is, but I'll check when it's back up...

I am not sure on how much time I have left, I will have to look.

I have the AT&T Tilt and it's awesome. It has Wi-Fi built in, but, unlike the iPhone, it also works on AT&T's 3G network which is blazing fast. It runs on Windows Mobile 6. The Skype app is awesome for it too, as I can use either WiFi or 3G to make Skype-to-Skype or Skype-out calls long distance, therefore avoiding using some expensive international plan/card.

My Blackberry "Curve" is pretty good. It's excellent at accessing the Web...you can post on this site.

Check it out...the Blackberry "Pearl" is pretty sweet, also.

The Curve does look nice but no Srint as an option.
That is strange since I can get a BlackBerry 8830 for Sprint but not the Curve?

I have the 8830 plus Sprint. I don't think wou will be happy with the web browsing capabilities of that combination.

I have the 8830 with Verizon, and am less than thrilled.

                              Yaks,

I would not bother with a standalone PDA.

I was in the same boat as you, but the better option, I think, is to get a PocketPC type of cellphone. They double as PDAs and phones and that way you only have to carry one gadget around.

I would highly recommend getting a PocketPC phone that has built-in Wi-Fi. Not all of them do. In fact, most do not. That was a dealbreaker for me, which significantly reduced my options.

I have Verizon, so while the coverage is excellent, the phone selection is not. I ended up with the Samsung SCH-i760 and I really like it.

Spring has the SERO plan, which is amazing. And, the Sprint Mogul is the phone I would get if I had Sprint. Nice PocketPC phone.

Verizon has the same phone, but it came out after I got my Samsung.

                              That's my $.02.
When you say to your neighbor, "We're having a loud party on Saturday night if that's alright with you," what you really mean is, "We're having a loud party on Saturday night."
