  • US V Poland (Score is revealed)

US beat Poland today 3-0 in Krakow. Always good to see the lads win in Europe, since until Bradley it's been pretty damn rare.

3 goals off set pieces. Don't remember the US ever doing that, but nice game for the national team.
From this day forward, I no longer shall tinker with the machinery of death.

For more than 20 years I have endeavored-indeed, I have struggled-along with a majority of this Court, to develop procedural & substantive rules that would lend more than the mere appearance of fairness to the death penalty endeavor.

I feel morally and intellectually obligated simply to concede that the death penalty experiment has failed.

The path the Court has chosen lessens us all. I dissent.

Got the TiVo on this one, but I was peeking anyway. Just a friendly, but certainly good to see. All three were on set pieces, eh? Was wondering what Onyewu and Bocanegra were doing scoring goals (and Lewis, for that matter).

If anybody saw it, would love to know if anybody could hold the ball in the midfield, or how Pearce looked at left back (assuming that's where he was).

And Moon, the elevation was -3000 feet, played on on submarine with a screen door.

Not many people know this, but Bocanegra means 'Black Mouth' in Spanish.

          Nice result.

Hey ppg, did Poland play many of their regulars? They qualified for Euro 2008, didn't they?

Clark and Bradley were actually quite good in holding the ball and transitioning from defense to offense, but some of that certainly had to do with the fact that the US was up 2-0 after 36 minutes.

I did not really focus on Pearce, as I am home today after getting some wisdom teeth removed, and over-medicating to prevent the suggestion of pain, but he seemed to be doing fine.

Poland, no doubt, felt that they did not deserve to be down 2-0 so early, but the US was actually a bit wasteful. Poland's defense on the set pieces was obviously poor, and DeMerit should have headed home easily after he was subbed in, and earlier Donovan basically missed a point blank shot, after cutting around the defense.

Watching now. Poland looked lost on the set pieces. We are looking pretty good, actually.

They did qualify for Euro 2008, and I assumed that they were playing their real complement, but I was a little out of it when I watched. I noticed that they were playing their keeper from Celtic and just assumed that this was their A squad.

Since Backstop is watching the game now maybe he can confirm, and I will watch it again later.

I'm not an expert on Polish soccer, but this seemed to be their top team, with the caveat that there was much more subbing than usual, it being a friendly. But the same goes for us.

It was close to their A squad save a hurt defender and a midfielder. Zurawski has been shit all year, hence his booting from the Celtic squad, and Boruc seemed uninterested.

A good win against a second tier Euro club on their soil. Not bad but nothing earth shattering really.
