Texas-Texas A&M football game moved back to traditional Thanksgiving slot
    Feb 25, 1:07 pm EST

PrintAUSTIN, Texas (AP)—The Texas-Texas A&M football rivalry will move back to its traditional Thanksgiving slot for the next two years.

The longtime Thanksgiving event was moved to the day after in 1996. The switch back accommodates a Thanksgiving night ESPN broadcast, Texas athletic director DeLoss Dodds said Monday.

Texas and Texas A&M have played on Thanksgiving 60 times in a rivalry that dates to 1894.

“I am very excited about playing our Texas game on Thanksgiving night,” new A&M coach Mike Sherman said. “This tradition-rich rivalry between two great universities deserves this type of exposure. I am hopeful we can keep this date for this game in years to come.”

Well, I hope that whichever family member has Thanksgiving this year has a big screen TV. HD would be good, too.

I think they've been showing the Ole Miss-Miss State games for awhile. That was so anti-climatic.

Just think, now the Big 12 can have Texas vs Texas A&M and Mizzou vs Kansas in the same weekend.

Not that my opinion on this matter means jack shit, but I thought it was cool having that game start on that Friday morning. You could spend all Thanksgiving watching ball, sleep late on Friday, wake up and immediately start watching a very interesting game.

Also, having it played on Thanksgiving night would suck because, by that point, I can hardly stay awake for 10 straight minutes. That's why the Egg Bowl was the perfect Thanksgiving night matchup. I couldn't care less if I fell asleep for the entire 2nd quarter of that crapfest.

I will be trying again...Gotta get tickets. However, I may be going to the MU/Illini game Labor Day weekend. I just hate that it's in the Dome, so the excitement level isn't what it would be for the KU game. Hopefully I can tickets to both.

Easy Ed and I tried to go last year but it was sold out and scalper prices were nuts.

Will try to get some tickets this year and start sooner.

Y'know, I absolutely positively remember watching Texas and T A&M playing on the Friday afternoon *after* Thanksgiving during my childhood.

In fact, the internet confirms that TAMU and UT played on November 28, 1975, which was a Friday. I was 9 years old and though A&M was cool because Ed Simonini and Bubba Bean had cool names.

Looking at schedules through the 60's, 70's, and '80's, it seems as if the game jumped around from Thanksgiving night, Friday afternoon, or Saturday afternoon.

I wonder how this will impact/be impacted by the fact that the NFL now has an evening Thanksgiving game...

Not sure from a ratings standpoint whether this is a good thing...

Given that the NLF game between the Colts and Falcons was on the NFL Network, it shouldn't be a bad thing as far as ratings goes...
