Boston slugger Manny Ramirez clubbed a pair of two-run doubles, the last one coming off Oakland closer Huston Street in the top of the 10th inning as the Red Sox began defense of their World Series title Tuesday with a 6-5 victory over the A's.

Street gave up a tying homer in the ninth to Brandon Moss, who started because right fielder J.D. Drew was scratched with lower back tightness. It was Moss' first major league homer.

I have J D on my fantasy team - He's my designated injured player.

Ramirez, who also had a two-RBI double in the top of the sixth, posed at the plate to watch his 10th-inning drive off Huston Street (0-1), thinking it was a three-run homer. Instead, the ball hit the center-field wall.
Can't make that shit up with him either.

I'd like to say the same to MLB for having our game's regular season open up at a time when 99% of us cannot watch it.

Chill out, Grandpa. The rest of MLB will open in a few days.

Eff Cincinnati. They haven't been relevent in 20 years. I never understood why the season had to start in Cincinnati every year.

Street is going to struggle this year. I'd bet money Foulke will end up the closer before the end of May.

The 1869 Cincinnati Red Stockings were the first all-professional team.

Of course, they bear no relation to the present-day Reds. The Cubs and the Braves are the oldest franchises in baseball, being the only surviving charter members of the NL.

MLB signed a deal with Marge Schott - she left baseball and they get the first game forever.

I would have made the same deal.

That can't be right, considering the first games have been played on Sunday nights on ESPN the last couple of years.
