Andy Murray got this team to play over its head for some of this and last season. Eric Johnson and David Perron are really good and have grown through the season - and we are on our way to a lottery pick. No worries.
The Blues had a great start which got everybody's hopes up, but it would be asking too much for a team in the 2nd year of a rebuilding process to make the playoffs. Sure, it's possible, but not likely. In the long run, it's better to suck for a few years to accumulate high draft picks. The Penguins are good today because they drafted well.
A lot of the young players who are already in the system will help solve some problems. Berglund, Oshie, and Eller should all be top-six forwards in a couple of years. Erik Johnson is developing quickly, but he still has a long way to go to be that Norris winning defenseman he should be.
I'd like to see the Blues get at least one more top line winger who is capable of scoring 40 goals, another top defenseman and a great young goaltender. Hopefully they will be able to do that through the draft, or develop their prospects to fill those roles (Junland, Wagner, Bishop, etc).
Only because they chose to keep around old guys who can't play anymore - Tkachuk, Rucinsky, Hinote, McKee (?),etc.
Brewer did not carry over his excellent play at the end of last year to this year.
Blues got rid of Weight (which I supported) to get younger and faster. Turns out that McDonald has more offensive ability compared to Weight at this stage of his career, but is not good defensively. The Ducks took off after that trade, and the Blues took a dump.
We have no finishers to go with McDonald and Kariya, who are primarily passers.
The third line with McClement, Backes, and Stempniak took a step back.
Perron needs to grow up.
We need to sign a couple of veteran (but can still play) wingers in the offseason, and bring up the likes of Berglund, Eller, etc. slowly so they can learn from those vets.

They no longer need orginazational depth. They need stars. They need players who can carry the team.
Now is the year to keep their top 5 pick, and try to trade up for another top 5 pick. There are about 8-10 legit next season NHL players in this year's draft. They should target landing 2 and having them, as well as Oshie, Eller, and Berglund on the big team next year. Have them be young and exciting...and building towards the Cup.
