  • Hunker down you hairy Wildcats!

Seriously. 1700 students. A 100% graduation rate. And we're among the top 16 in the nation?????

Take Stephen Curry off that team and they may not win two games all season, much less two in the NCAA Tournament. It's amazing to me that the whole ACC somehow missed on him.

Kudos to Davidson for pulling a big win today over the Hoyas....let's see how Stephen Curry works his magic against the best defense in the nation in Bucky the Badger...

The supporting cast is, actually, quite good. Richards is the best point guard in the country IMO. The others might not be stars at their positions, but they held their ground long enough today until Curry got his game going. Good guard play has long been a constant in successful tourney teams, so Davidson has a chance to go farther than most would predict in this year's tourney. I'm just amazed that they can do it with a school that size and with the academic standards they employ.

If I am correct, didn't Valparaiso get to the Sweet 16 with a smaller enrollment?..

            I don't know. Davidson's enrollment is 1700.

According to Valpo's website, their enrollment is around 4000 students.

As I said earlier, the quality of the rest of the players is probably better than that to which you're giving them credit. What is amazing to me is that VPI declined to give him a scholarship after what his Dad did there. Having said that, I'm not sure that Curry would have gotten the opportunities he's gotten at Davidson had he gone anywhere else. He's been the Southern Conference player of the year and tournament MVP in his first two years, and he's played 3 NCAA tourney games in which the fewest number of points he's scored is 30. Would he have made a more storied name for himself if he had gone to an ACC school? Methinks not.

KMeyer, I admire the Wisconsin team and the way they play. I wouldn't be surprised to see them beat Davidson by double digits. But, didn't Georgetown have a similar reputation?

Georgetown was playing terribly inconsistent ball late in the season, and got bounced from the Big East tournament--probably costing them a #1 seed.

Wisconsin plays a heavy defensive style, but in the tournament they've also showed some ability to score with balanced inside-outside scoring. Should be a good matchup in the Sweet 16 (btw, Grats, I was thinking about you watching the game today--I had Davidson getting into this round and losing to GT, and either team losing to Wiscy...so your Hairy Wildcats didn't hurt me too badly.)

Thanks. I had us winning the first round and losing today, thus my surprise. I sold Wiscy and West Va. short in my brackets.

The supporting cast that you say held them in until Curry got going today had them down 17 points at one point and they were down 15 when Curry made his first basket of the second half. You'll forgive me for not thinking that the rest of the team held them in.

The other guys play their roles well, something that wouldn't be possible without a guy like Curry carrying the load. Richards is a nice player but I think to call him the best point guard in the country is a bit of a stretch.

That all being said...you all should be proud of them. As you said, given their school size and academic standards, it's amazing that they've made it this far, with or without Stephen Curry.

I was certain Georgetown would beat Davidson with a superior overall defensive effort, and a specifially superior inside game. Didn't happen.

With nothing on the floor, they would have been down 30. (for e.g., see Arkansas today) Richards scored 20, and Lovedale rebounded well during that drought, so they weren't exactly going through the motions. Richards does exactly what you want your point guard to do. The fact that he leads the nations in assists - not all of which are to Curry - makes me say what I did. The free throw attempts he drew and made while Curry was on the bench, and the pass he made to Curry for a layup that was crucial to the comeback, are what makes Richards as valuable as Curry.
