  • Lofton Frustrated - Should Cards Make an Offer?

I think Mo should try and sign Kenny Lofton right now. We don't really have a true center fielder or a lead off man right now and one of our supposed 5 OF's, Ludwick, is pretty much stinking up the joint in Spring Training. Why not sign Lofton and let Rasmus take his time in AAA getting a ton of AB's?

    Thoughts?

Yes, but only if he can play shortstop.

I wouldn't have a problem if they signed him. Plus, Lofton is known to be highly coveted at trading deadline time and they could probably get a prospect of some sort for him then.

If you're going to go with the youth, go all the way. Guys like Lofton and Gonzalez will just serve to be in the way of the younger guys getting their shot.

And if that's not enough, one more time: no.

My unborn daughter has more on her throws to the plate than Lofton does. Our outfield is not the problem with the team. And teams that will be lucky to break .500 do not need to be putting forty-year-old outfielders on the roster.

The Reds offered Lofton a minor-league contract, but he wanted a major-league deal. The Rays offered him a major-league deal for more than $1 million, but Lofton wanted a salary more in line with some of his peers. Maybe he should just sign somewhere and prove himself again, but in Lofton's view, he has been there, done that, too many times throughout his 17-year career.
Seems pretty clear right here why no one will sign his dumb ass. Too greedy for a veteran with his mileage.

Just move on and retire Kenny if don't get it by now.

I think his frustration centers around the fact that he sucks.

I think we have more than enough OF's to work with now.....Schumaker is a sufficient leadoff hitter for now, until he becomes trade bait later in the season when Tony figures out that he has too many lefthanded sticks in the lineup.......

Pass. He can still work a walk, but probably really doesn't bring anything to the table that Skippy or Barton don't.
