I haven't seen this on the board, so...

Hopes that he would pull a Spivey apparently are futile.

Didn't Eck sign a 1 year deal in Toronto? Maybe we could start a bake sale or something and bring him back next year

You know, I am usually an optimist. Or what others would call a "homer".

But goddammit, it is fucking hard to find someplace to plant the Optimism Flag this year. I'm trying to find a reason not to believe we're about to have our worst shortstop since the Tripp Cromer/Ghost of Ozzie Smith combo in 1995, and failing.

I made peace with that fact early this week or last week or something. It was a hard realization but one that makes me a better person.

Izturis is hurt can't you see it - he can barely move - hear or see -

            He's got something bad.

            Please DL him Tony.

"Serviceable" in the sense that he will probably catch ground balls hit at him, and he will swing his bat and sometimes he will hit the ball and run to first base without being put out, I guess. "Serviceable" in the sense of "not the worst everyday shortstop in the National League"--I dunno.

                      You'd be correct...

The 2008 Cardinals season doesn't hinge on what Izturis does, no matter how shitty he plays...

Well, this is true, as are most problems when viewed in isolation. But objectively, he looks like he's going to suck tremendously. And when your second baseman is also a big question mark, your third baseman is coming off of injury, your lefty relievers are looking iffy and your starting rotation is a wing and four prayers...

"Serviceable" = "Breathing" or "Better than you or I would probably do."

                              Well now I'm sold.

'We'll suck so badly that having a shitty shortstop won't make a difference anyways.'
